Altai Tavan Bogd is a mountain range located in Western Mongolia, near the border with China and Russia. The name “Altai Tavan Bogd” means “Five Sacred Peaks of Altai” in Mongolian, and refers to the five highest peaks in the range, which reach elevations of over 4,000 meters.

Altai Tavan Bogd is a popular destination for trekking, mountaineering, and camping. Visitors can explore the surrounding landscapes, which include glaciers, alpine lakes, and wildflower meadows. The area is also home to a variety of wildlife, such as ibex, argali sheep, and snow leopards.

One of the highlights of a visit to Altai Tavan Bogd is climbing Malchin Peak, which is the smallest of the five sacred peaks but still a challenging climb. Visitors can also visit the nearby Potanin Glacier, which is the longest glacier in Mongolia.

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar

Place : Ulaanbaatar

Camp: Hotel

Distance: 50km

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city’s landmarks, such as Sukhbaatar Square, the National Museum of Mongolia

Day 2 Ulgii city

Place : Ulgii city

Camp: Hotel

Distance: 2400km

Fly to Bayan-Olgii, the westernmost province of Mongolia and home to a majority of Mongolia’s Kazakh population. Explore the town and visit a local museum to learn about the region’s history and culture.

Day 3 Altai Tavan Bogd

Place :National park

Camp: Base camp

Distance: 200km

Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, where you will begin your trek to the base camp of the Altai Tavan Bogd mountain range. The trek will take around 5 hours, and you will camp at the base camp.

Day 4 Altai Mountains

Place :Altai Mountains

Camp: Ger camp

Distance: 2800 meters

Hike to Malchin Peak, the smallest of the five peaks in the Altai Tavan Bogd range. The hike will take around 8-10 hours. Malchin Peak is a popular destination for mountaineers, offering a challenging climb with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including glaciers, alpine lakes, and grasslands.

Day 5 Potanien Glacier & Tsagaan gol Valley

Place : Altai Mountains

Camp: Base camp

Distance: 50km

Hike to Potanin Glacier, the largest glacier in Mongolia, and explore the surrounding area. Hike to Tsagaan Gol Valley, a beautiful valley with crystal-clear rivers and stunning mountain views. Camp overnight in the valley.

Day 6 Back to Ulgii city

Place :Ulgii city

Camp: Base camp

Distance: 200km

Return to Bayan-Olgii and explore the town’s markets and souvenir shops. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kazakh performance of music and dance.

Day 7 Departure

Place: Ulaanbaatar

Camp: Base camp

Distance: 2400km

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight, or continue your travels in Mongolia.
